The opening of the Open Regional Art Exhibition at the Hill Center<\/a> in Washington D.C. took place on Tuesday evening. There were 70 pieces on display from 65 artists. (See earlier post<\/a> with the event flyer.) There was quite a crowd for the two hour event, which culminated with juror Jack Rasmussen<\/a>, curator of the\u00a0American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center, Washington, DC<\/a>, rapidly going through a slide show of all 70 works, giving a quick appraisal of each and explaining how he chose the top three winners plus three honorable mentions.<\/p>\n

I was quite pleased to get one of those honorable mentions and to hear him say several nice things about my two works. I had to come up and say a few words about the techniques I used.<\/p>\n

Here I am standing by the “Yellow Onion on a Box<\/em>“, which got the Honorable Mention:<\/p>\n

The pieces were mounted near the entrance and on each side of a nice painting of hay bales (I unfortunately forgot the name of the artist.)<\/p>\n

Friend and artist\u00a0Dilip Sheth<\/a>, who told me about the show and urged me to enter it, had one of his paintings in the exhibition as well – My Clouds<\/em>:<\/p>\n
